Importing 101

Power of Attorney

This video discusses the basics of the POA.

The Power of Attorney allows a Customs Broker to transact customs business on an importer's behalf.

It needs to be signed by an officer of the company.

It needs to be accompanied by photo identification and a Tax ID certificate.

It remains in effect until revoked (except for Partnerships, which expire in 2 years).

Importer Security Filing

For ocean shipments, an ISF needs to be filed at least 24 hours prior to sailing at origin. It is filed with a 10+2 form.

The form includes the following information:

Bill of Lading number(s)
